OnePlus has posted the first episode in a four-part documentary series on Instagram, detailing the development of the upcoming OnePlus Nord smartphone.
The episode doesn't tell us much about the phone, but we do get a good confirmation of the OnePlus Nord name after the company accidentally confirmed it on Instagram last week.
But an even greater amount of information is OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau's confirmation that it will be priced below $ 500. The last OnePlus phone to cost less than $ 500 at launch was the OnePlus 5T.
This doesn't necessarily mean the OnePlus Nord will be priced well below $ 500. The company could price it at $ 499 and that would technically be less than $ 500. Still, we hope the price tag does indeed go well below $ 500.
The first episode also gives us a peek at early designs for the new phone (see 5:55), including a phone with dual selfie sensors in a hole for a punch hole. We don't see a 3.5mm port on the bottom of this particular design. Check out the screenshot below.
"Our journey will continue on July 7," a line at the end of the video reads. We don't know exactly what this means, but it could be the next episode date or the launch date.
OnePlus also followed with a press release to Android authority, confirming the launch plans. But it seems that Americans will not remain completely in the dark.
“The first device under the OnePlus Nord line will be available in Europe and India. A select few users in North America will also have the opportunity to experience the new device through a very limited beta program after launch, according to a snippet of the release. It's also interesting to note that the company calls it the first device in the Nord series, suggesting there are long-term plans for more phones in the family.
Rumors of specs point to a phone with a Snapdragon 765 processor, a dual selfie camera setup, four rear cameras, a 90Hz screen and 30W charging. What do you want to see from the OnePlus Nord? Let us know in the comments!
