Prepare your PC for an early update of Windows 10 May 2019

5 min read

Although Microsoft is preparing to start the gradual roll-out of the May 2019 Update, version 1903, for Windows 10 by the end of May, once the feature update is complete, you can download the final version before anyone else with the Windows Insider Program.

The program is designed to provide pre-releases of Windows 10 using three levels of readiness (Fast, Slow, and Release Preview) that developers and enthusiasts can use to test and provide feedback for future features.

While the Fast and Slow rings usually contain bugs, the Release Preview ring only offers builds when the feature update is complete. This means that if you want early access to the new features, you can use the Release Preview ring to update your device to version 1903 before it is available to everyone.

In this Windows 10 manual, we will discuss the steps to download the final version of the May 2019 update once it is complete.

How to install the May 2019 update with the Windows Insider program

Although this is the final version of Windows 10, chances are that unknown bugs and other problems will be encountered, using the Release Preview ring.

In the past, once the final version was available in the Release Preview ring, it no longer meant reinstalling test builds, but you only got quality updates to address last-minute bugs. However, since the October 2018 update, we have seen Microsoft make additional preview builds available that required a complete reinstallation, which will also be the case with the May 2019 update (so be prepared).

Warning: This is a friendly reminder that changing a Windows 10 installation can have a negative impact on your current settings. It is always recommended to make a temporary backup before proceeding as a precaution.

To register your device in the Windows Insider program, download the version 1903 for someone else:

  1. Open settings.
  2. click on Update and security.
  3. click on Windows Insider program.
  4. Click on the Get started button.

  5. Click on the Link an account button.

  6. Select your Microsoft account in the list (or use a different account).
  7. Click on the Continue button.
  8. About the "What kind of content would you like to receive?" page, select the Only corrections, apps and drivers & # 39; s option, the "Release Preview" option.

  9. Click on the Confirm button.
  10. Click on the Confirm press the button again to agree to the conditions.

  11. Click on the Restart now button.

Once the steps have been completed, the Windows 10 May 2019 update will be considered complete and will be available in the Release Preview ring so that your computer will receive it automatically through Windows Update.

If you discover that the function update is already available, you can also force the upgrade settings > Update and security > Windows Updateand click on the Check for updates button.

Unsubscribe from the Windows Insider program

After the May 2019 update has been downloaded and installed on your device, it is recommended to remove the device from the program.

Use these steps to gracefully stop getting pre-releases:

  1. Open settings.
  2. click on Update and security.
  3. click on Windows Insider program.
  4. Under the "Stop fetching preview builds" section, turn from the rocker switch.

After you complete the steps after version 1903 is available to everyone, your device gracefully stops sample retrieval and the installation continues to receive quality updates as long as the feature update is supported.

Pack things up

Although this method gives you quick access to the latest version of the May 2019 update, you should be aware that releases in the Release Preview channel can also cause problems. Usually it is best to wait until you receive a notification that you know that the feature is being updated through Windows Update.

If you are already testing examples in the Windows Insider program through Slow Calling, there is no need to change your settings, because the code will ultimately be the same in all available ringtones. However, you can use the steps above to stop receiving pre-releases after the update is officially available.

If you are in the Fast ring, it is recommended that you switch to the Release Preview ring in the coming weeks, Microsoft will start publishing early examples for the 20H1 update that will be released in 2020.
